I feel like going back and telling of a story..A story that means quite a lot to me. I've been having a rough time, and I thought it would be nice to look back on an amazing point in my life and share it with you all.
It was up at my Great Grandparents house.
Man, I used to live up North with them for weeks at a time. It was a beautiful little house..Well, to me anyways. It was water front, and I always headed down to the water to swim or catch minnows. The neighbours and I used to go out and go tubing in the summer, or walk out on the ice when it froze over in the winter. Everyone would watch us from the front porch.
Ever long weekend in May, we would put the rood to the deck up, and every Thanksgiving before dinner we would take it down and wash it with m Great Grandfather barking orders at all of us.
There was no internet, and even the TV Was crappy, even if it did have more channels than at home.
My great Grandfather would always make me chocolate chip pancakes in the morning and shape them like little men. Then he would always joke around and ask if I wanted to give him his blood test. He was diabetic.
The neighbours grandkids and I used to get into enough trouble. On top of the hill was a cow field, and we would sneak up into there without our parents knowing, and even after we were told not to.
We used to catch frogs in the little pond up there, too. One day I remember I fell into the pond and got soaked with not only water, but I was covered from head to toe in mud.
We used to scare the little kids into thinking there was a killer on the loose, and we would all laugh as they ran to tell their parents what we had said.
I used to sit up for hours staring at the waves in the bay...God, it was amazing. Some days the water would be a bright blue, other days it would be gray.
The water was always cold, but I never did mind. Jumping off the dock was always the worst way to get in. You always froze before you got back up the boat ramp to dry off.
The family would get together and enjoy themselves, and later we would have dinner together. Dinner was never bland, there was always enough food for everyone. We always had to remind my great grandmother to check her food for mouse droppings before she did anything with it.
The back room in the house was always cold, and we always kept the dogs back in there. I always got yelled at for letting the dogs in if they were still wet from swimming, or being in there before dinner was done.
I always will remember getting home from the fair on fair weekends with my prizes in hand, blabbering off to my Great Grandparents about how much I ate, or how much I won, and they would always be watching the hockey game on TV Because my Great Grandfather would get angry if he missed a game.
We would sit with him and look out the window to the backyard to see a bunch of deer passing on top of the hill.
That hill was the best. We used to sled down it every winter, and I would drive the 4-wheeler up it often.
And then everyone would get together and go for a walk down the road to the creek. My grandfather and I would often go up the creek a little to a huge waterfall, and pick apples on the way home.
In a way it hurts to talk about this. In 2010 my Great Grandmother had to sell the house after my Great Grandfather went into a nursing home..And later that year he died. My Great Grandmother is currently in a nursing home, also. I will never forget all those amazing adventures I used to have, or all time times I had a good laugh with everyone.
I just miss it all.
